>> mister bailey

Mr. Bailey was the emergency contact for me in 1st grade and once when I was "sick", he got me out of school and let me have chocolate ice cream and play Nintendo. Since that day my loyalty has never faltered. We even have a secret handshake, still implemented to this day. Great laugh, great guy, great style (and he has an even more stylish wife, of course!).

Winston's War: Churchill, 1940-1945 ($24); Hermes silk twill tie ($170); Vintage Persols circa 1980s ($199); Needlepoint Retriever key fob ($45); Belgian shoes ($350); Cartier Tank Francaise; Oliver Peoples tortoise glasses (prices vary); Dunhill cigars ($228 for box).

>> down time

Everyone needs a little R&R, as demonstrated by Charles Eames sitting on a beach in Santa Monica sixty years ago (September 1950). Nice beach chair, Chuck!

I'm really loving Jeffrey Milstein's Aircraft: The Jet as Art photo series! Photo on left from the hilarious blog Unhappy Hipsters. (Via Swissmiss).

>> it was a dark and stormy night...

In protest to the light and sunny weather, we served Dark 'N' Stormys last night for a few peeps new in town. I know that technically Barritt's is the way to go on the ginger beer front, but we tried out the Aussie brand Bundaberg, which was pretty tasty and readily available down the street at The Oaks.

Gosling's Black Seal dark rum ($20); Bundaberg ginger beer ($2.25 per bottle at The Oaks); Shun premier paring knife ($100); Ice bucket ($145); Birch cutting board ($50); vintage kitchen matches ($2); ice tongs ($8); Striped vans ($52); Ujala lamp ($148); lobster swizzle sticks ($1 each); The Meters album, for track 11, "Stormy" ($14).

Can someone please tell me why the internet is saying it's 73˚? Lies. Cruel lies. (photo via Happenstance)

>> just married!

Last weekend two of Matt and my besties tied the knot on the North Shore of Massachusetts overlooking the ocean on a perfect August day. Everything about it was breathtaking. We just ordered them a case of Just Married from the newly re-vamped Swanson Vineyards website to be delivered when they return from their honeymoon (Don't worry, I am pretty confident Griff and Ashley aren't reading this as they are in a remote area of Northern India). Congrats A+G!

>> M.V.

Spotted in an antique store in Martha's Vineyard: James Taylor's 1979 album "Flag". How perfectly M.V.

Also spotted (and eaten): Fried clams.

Begrudgingly heading back now.

>> acapulco chair

I think I first laid eyes on an Acapulco chair ($350+) earlier this year when I was writing a story about a Los Feliz couple who had white ones in their back yard. The chair, which is based on Mayan hammock weaving technology, was designed in the 1950s and has been a huge hit in Mexico. They're great for outdoor space but could work indoors as well. Another good online resource is Greenpoint Works in Brooklyn.

>> mohawk general store

My friend Kingsley is in town from New York (posting might be light this week). Yesterday we went to Silver Lake for gelato and shoe shopping when we walked right into the grand opening of Mohawk General Store's new location at the Sunset junction (4011 West Sunset Blvd. Los Angeles). Great shoes, great lamps, great bags, great everything. Go now!

How cool is this!? My cousin stamped her wedding invitations with a bunch of vintage stamps, each one representing a part of their lives. Love it.
