Seriously, what's the worst that could happen?

>> cecil beaton + david hockney

I have been so deeply entrenched in women's fashion lately over at Tomboy Style, that I've been sort of thirsty for men's duds...on men. Above are two images I scanned from my book David Hockney Photographs (1982), Cecil Beaton by David Hockney in 1971 and David Hockney by Mark Lancaster (Hockney thinks) in 1976.

>> Eliot Noyes

Just playing some accordion...

Architect Eliot Noyes' daughter, Derry Noyes, practicing her accordion in the living room of her home (designed by her father). Note the vase in foreground by Pablo Picasso. Photo by George Silk, 1963.

Just cleaning my rifle...

The Talbot Rantoul summer house designed by Noyes. Neil Rantoul cleaning his rifle on a pull-down bed in the boys' quarters which doubles as a painting studio. Photo by John Dominis, 1965

>> tablescapes

I wonder how many hours (days?) of productivity I could waste just by rearranging tablescapes. Probably lots.

I've never really thought of John Lennon as "dapper" until I saw this photo. Yeow.

I hope you enjoy the long weekend and the last official days of summer. I can't believe how fast it's flown by this year. Matt and I are headed to Wyoming for some fishing and wildernessing on Friday. Check out the above photo of Jackson, WY taken in 1948. Incredible!

I'm really loving Jeffrey Milstein's Aircraft: The Jet as Art photo series! Photo on left from the hilarious blog Unhappy Hipsters. (Via Swissmiss).

>> six month long exposure

This dream-like photograph shows each phase of the sun over Bristol's Clifton Suspension Bridge taken over a six month period. Believe it or not, the image was captured on a pin-hole camera made from an empty can with a 0.25mm aperture and a single sheet of photographic paper. Photographer Justin Quinnell strapped the camera to a telephone pole and left it untouched between December 19, 2007 and June 21, 2008—the Winter and Summer solstices. Gorgeous.

>> polaroid swinger

Do you ever zone out while internetting, and then you realize you're on some esoteric vintage photo site webmastered by Camera Danny from Dubuque, with literally no idea how you got there? At some point last night I found myself obsessing over the Polaroid Swinger camera which was in production between 1965 and 1970 and sold for just $19.95. Isn't it cool looking!? Ali MacGraw did at least one of their TV campaigns, Meet the Swinger, where the jingle tells you that "It's more than a camera, it's almost a life." Almost a life, I can certainly relate to that.

>> hipstamatic iphone app

The Hipstamatic iPhone app ($1.99), which converts your iPhone camera into an old school Instamatic camera, came out in mid February, I don't know why it took me so long to download because it's pretty freaking awesome.

>> c magazine spread

C Magazine, a California style pub, featured our wedding in their first-ever Weddings Issue which just hit stands. Seems like forever ago now, but it all went down last October, probably about time to take that giant bow off of Harrison.

>> long beach love

Back to Long Beach for a second. Who knew how awesome it was? After the flea a bunch of us headed to 4th street and ate Vietnamese sandwiches at Number Nine Noodles, our friends Danielle and Garett then found a rad dining room table at Trebor/Nevets, and I ogled the above painted crab buoys ($125) by Elias Crouch at Shelter Surf. I also like his print 26 Flags for communication with other drifters ($25), but didn't have a good photo to post.

Now that's what I call a house boat. Image from the artist's SF-based surfboard line Crouch Craft.

>> fuji instax instant camera

Good bye Polaroid. Hello Fuji. I'm only hearing great things about the next generation of instant cameras. It's lightweight, stylish, has auto-focus, auto-flash and prints on credit card-size film. Get one here ($130).

I found a historic photo of our apartment building and then went out to try and take the same one. Not much has changed in 70 years! Lots of cool old L.A. snaps to check out at Hollywood Historic Photos—many available for purchase.
