Because most espresso makers are unafforfable, check out this stove top espresso maker. I can't comment on the quality of the beverage, but it seems easy enough—you simply put ground coffee beans in the filter basket in the middle of the espresso maker, put cold water in the bottom half, and place it on your hob. As the water boils it is forced under super-heated pressure through the ground coffee beans to make the perfect espresso. Suitable for use on gas, electric and halogen hobs. Capacity 250ml (4 espresso cups), and not bad to look at either. Get it here for $110, pretty cool gift I think.
