Scout

I had a wonderful day walking around Andersonville this afternoon—what a great Chicago neighborhood! Later this week I'll elaborate more on the neighborhood but right now I'd like to focus on Scout, my newest favorite store. I can't tell you how much I love the "scout aesthetic" that Larry Vodak has cultivated over the years. The store isn't too big but you can easily get lost looking around at all the urban antiques, flea market finds, family treasures and contemporary pieces. Larry Vodak is passionate about scouting and he believes Scout is for anyone that shares his passion for the search and a love for all things found. It's a great mix and a wonderful shopping experience—I think I'll be back this weekend because my eye caught more than a few items. My favorite pics below. If you live in Chicago or are visiting anytime: Scout is a must-visit. 5221 N. Clark St. Thanks Larry!

OH - I wish we had a store like this around here - not only is it the name of my cat but looks like it has furniture and items that are right up my alley!

I just moved to Evanston just north of Andersonville, and I found it to be one of the coolest places yet! Thanks for this post, I'll be sure to visit Scout the next chance I get!

Thanks!

I've been to the store, and it's clear that Scout has modeled its look and selection on the stalls at the Paris Flea Market. There, you can find thousands of permanent and temporary stalls with the same flavor---which is to say, an artful mix of antiques, "junk", and newer items. But Paris is far away, so while Scout's style sense is not exactly original, it's still a very welcome addition to Chicago, and Andersonville in particular. Just remember that when ordinary items are displayed in a clever and artful context, you can expect to pay twice as much a you would in a different setting.
