I'm headed home in a few hours and I have to say I was very surprised by Santa Fe—it's a lot more than I imagined it would be. Yes, there are still massive amounts of kitsch at bad art galleries, but there's also a wonderful sense of remoteness, serenity and enchantment. I guess that's why a lot of celebs flee L.A. and New York for the high-altitude desert gem (did I mention I roasted a marshmallow with SJP last night? Not to mention Hugh Grant, Vince Vaughn and Robert Redford who were also spotted on the Encantado property). But what I loved most was all the color. Thanks Santa Fe, it was nice to meet you again.

Chilaquiles de la Casa
I didn't think I was going to blog over the weekend, but I just devoured the most delightful New Mexican breakfast, Chilaquiles de la Casa, which consists of scrambled eggs, corn tortillas, roasted tomatoes, and red chili sauce. They say it's a tried-and-true hangover cure, and I'm not going to disagree.

The Land of Enchantment

I'm off early tomorrow for Santa Fe on a press trip to check out the new Auberge resort, Encantado. I'm really looking forward to it, especially because the last time I was in New Mexico (about nine years ago) the design communities were still experiencing the tail end of the 1980s-1990s Santa Fe Living/Ralph Lauren design boom and I'm curious to see how it's evolved since then. I've heard there has been quite a change with a more modern art scene elbowing its way in among the tourists and turquoise. I'll be back on Monday with a full report! Have a great weekend, it's gorgeous in Chicago.
